About me
I’m Steph Assez, a self-taught collage artist based in Southeast London.
I work with scissors, glue and a lot of imagination, creating hand-cut analogue collages from vintage and recycled materials. Old magazines, discarded books, found photos, forgotten scraps...I collect stories that have been thrown away and piece them back together into something new.
My work is playful, feminist and a little surreal, blending fragments of old Hollywood glamour, 1950s domesticity, natural imagery, music and French text into layered visual stories. I love reworking outdated depictions of women into scenes that feel powerful, funny or quietly rebellious; small rewrites of the past through paper, glue and storytelling. Narrative is what ties everything together for me — whether through words or visuals, I want my work to make people think, smile, laugh and feel.
Collage, to me, is both storytelling and sustainability. It's a way to celebrate imperfection, reuse what already exists and find beauty in the overlooked and forgotten.
You can find my work at markets and online. I also take on commissions and collaborations, from private pieces to album covers or brand projects that need a one-of-a-kind touch.
