Why My Collage Print Prices Are What They Are (And Why I’m Proud of Them)

Why My Collage Print Prices Are What They Are (And Why I’m Proud of Them)

One of the most common questions artists get (especially independent ones) is some variation of:

“How do you decide what your art costs?”

So I thought I’d write a little something about how I price my collage prints, and why I’ve landed on the numbers you’ll see on my website and at markets.

Spoiler: it’s not random, and it’s definitely not plucked out of thin air!

1. Everything Starts With the Original Collage

Every print you buy begins as a completely handmade collage created with:

  • vintage magazines and books

  • recycled paper and scraps

  • found materials

  • carefully cut shapes

  • hours (and hours) of fiddly, joyful, meditative assembling

They’re not digitally generated or put together on a screen. They’re made with a real scalpel, real glue and real time. That handmade nature is reflected in the value of the prints.

2. I Use High-Quality, Eco-Friendly Print Stock

Sustainability is a big part of my practice.
I source recycled, textured and planet-friendly papers, and I work with UK printers who produce small batches, meaning the prints don’t come from a mass-production system.

This eco-conscious approach is more expensive to produce, but it’s non-negotiable for me.
I want art to feel good and do good.

3. Printed in Small Batches, Not Bulk

I’m not ordering thousands of prints at a time.
Most are printed in very small runs, which keeps waste low but increases production cost.

Small-batch printing is more expensive than mass printing, but it means:

  • better quality

  • less environmental impact

  • more uniqueness per piece

Your print hasn’t been churned out in a factory. It was printed because someone (hopefully you!) loved it enough to want it.

4. Hours of Work Happen Before a Print Even Exists

Every piece starts as an idea, then a rummage through vintage paper, then cutting, composition, reshuffling, gluing, scanning...
It’s a process that takes time, energy and creative attention.

Pricing reflects not only the physical product but the time and skill behind it.

5. I’m a One-Woman Small Business

I do everything myself:

  • designing

  • making

  • photographing

  • editing

  • printing

  • packing

  • marketing

  • lugging things to markets (shoutout to my shoulders and my very patient partner)

When you buy a print from me, you’re supporting a real human being doing all the things, not a big company with a giant team and endless resources.

6. I Want My Work to Be Accessible (Without Undervaluing It)

This is the delicate balance every artist tries to find.

I want my prints to be:
affordable enough to be accessible, but priced high enough to respect the craft.

Here’s where I’ve landed:

  • A5 — £15

  • A4 — £25

  • 30 × 30 cm — £35

  • A3 — £40

These prices reflect:

  • sustainable materials

  • small-batch printing

  • the cost of production

  • my time and labour

  • my experience as an artist

  • and the value of original creative work

They also allow me to keep creating...which is the biggest gift of all!

7. Every Purchase Helps Me Keep Making Art

This one’s simple but true:
When you buy a print, you’re not just buying a piece of paper.
You’re supporting the future of my art practice: the next collage, the next idea, the next collection.

And that means the world to me.

Final Note: Thank You

If you’ve ever bought a print, shared my work, visited my stall, or even just followed my collage journey online, thank you.
Your support isn’t abstract. I feel it in every piece I create and every print order I pack.
